How do I replace divots?
If your shot removes a chunk of fairway, place the divot back in the ground and give it a little tap with your foot. If the divot breaks apart and you cannot repair it our maintenance team will soon fill it with their seed and soil mixture.Your fellow golfers will appreciate it.
How do I use the pace clocks at certain tees?
Our pace clocks help keep everyone moving comfortably around the course. Simply compare your current time to the recommended pace posted on the tee sign. If you’re a little behind, just keep things moving between shots and embrace “ready golf.”
How do I know if I am playing too slow?
A simple rule: your group should stay reasonably close to the group ahead of you. If there’s open space in front and the group behind keeps waiting on your shots, it may be time to pick up the pace a touch.
What should I do if the group behind me is catching up?
If the hole ahead is open and the group behind is consistently waiting, it’s courteous to let them play through. A quick wave and a smile keeps the day enjoyable for everyone.
What should I do if my ball goes into the forest or I can’t find it?
Duntroon’s forests can be beautiful… and very skilled at collecting golf balls. Please limit ball searches to 2 minutes. If the ball still hasn’t appeared, drop another nearby and keep the round moving.
How do I know if my ball is out of bounds?
Out of bounds areas are marked with white stakes. If your ball finishes beyond those stakes, it’s considered out of bounds and you’ll need to replay the shot with a penalty. When in doubt, hitting a provisional ball can save time and footsteps.
What do the different hole colours on the greens mean?
The flag colours tell you where the hole is located on the green. Red usually means the pin is near the front, white is middle, and black is toward the back. Helpful knowledge before deciding whether to hit the hero shot or the smart shot.
What is the proper way to rake a bunker and where should I leave the rake?
After your shot, smooth over your footprints and any disturbed sand so the bunker is ready for the next golfer. When finished, place the rake inside the bunker parallel to the edge. Leave the bunker looking better than you found it — your fellow golfers will thank you.
What do I need to know about respecting course rules?
Repair ball marks, rake bunkers, follow cart signage, and keep carts away from greens and tees. Small acts of care go a long way in keeping Duntroon Highlands beautiful for everyone enjoying the Highlands.
Choose the tees that match your comfortable driving distance and help you enjoy the course. Red tees are ideal for golfers typically driving the ball under 180 yards, yellow tees suit most recreational golfers driving it around 180–230 yards, and white tees are best for longer hitters consistently driving the ball 230+ yards. If you are not sure, contact our Golf Academy or head up to our driving range and hit a few balls like you would from a tee. Our range features distance flags to help gauge how far you hit each club, and baskets of driving range balls can be purchased in the Pro Shop.
- 8–9 feet = slower public course greens
