Q & A with Ryan Jackson, Head Golf Pro at Duntroon Highlands Golf
Ryan Jackson started as the Head Golf Pro at Duntroon Highlands Golf in October 2021. We asked him to answer a few questions about himself.
Where do you live and what do you do when you’re not golfing?
I live in Collingwood. My hobbies are golf-without saying, hockey, baseball, cooking, skiing.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Orangeville and have helped my dad while he was the Executive Chef at Maple Downs Golf and Country Club and in the winters for his Catering Business and restaurants called “Tailwinds”.
What attracted you to Duntroon Highlands?
I really like the family atmosphere and sense of community. I also love to see a course moving onwards and upwards and recognizing its potentential to be a year round facility for people to come up and enjoy.
What golf clubs have you previously worked at?
I have worked at some very outstanding golf clubs across Ontario as well as out West. I worked at Maple Downs Golf and Country Club as an Assistant Professional, which is where I started my career. This position led me to an opportunity out west where I became the Associate Golf Professional at The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf club- after 5 years I moved back to Ontario and worked at Cobble Beach Golf Links and TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley where I held the Associate Professional role.
What piqued your interest and got you into the game of golf?
My father was the Executive Chef at Maple Downs Golf and Country Club. At a young age I used to go into the club with him in the mornings-help him set things up in the kitchen and then would venture down to the range where I would play and practice until he was done. This is where my passion for a club atmosphere/the game of golf arose.
If you weren’t a Golf Professional, what line of work would you be in?
I would be in the restaurant business. Whether that would be a chef or running an operation at some capacity.
What’s your favourite Golf Course that you have played?
It would have to be The Olde Florida Club in Naples, Florida.
What is your favourite club in the bag?
It would have to be my Pitching Wedge- I use it in many different situations while out on the golf course.
