Highlights
Play it as it lies
- – Don’t move or touch the ball. Where it comes to rest, is where you should play your next shot.
- – If ball lands in a divot it is playable unless it is in a “ground under repair” area that is roped off or marked with pink paint on the ground, in which case it is a Pick & Drop within 1 club length of the marked area.
Out of Bounds And Lost Balls
– The penalty for hitting your ball out of bounds (or losing your ball) is “stroke and distance” — that is, add one stroke to your score, and then go back to where you hit the shot from to hit it again.
– If you hit the ball out of bounds, rather than retracing your steps (especially at a busy course), you can play a second ball called a “provisional ball” off the tee. Wait until everyone else tees off before you hit your provision ball and then count this as your third stroke. Barn/pickleball area/ clubhouse/parking lots/road and property fence line are Out of Bounds.
Penalty Areas including Water Hazards
Penalty areas are identified by yellow or red stakes/lines. You may always play the ball as it lies from within the penalty area without penalty.
Yellow Penalty Area – One-Stroke Penalty
-If taking relief, you have two options:
- i) Stroke and Distance: Play another ball from where your previous stroke was made.
- ii) Back-on-the-Line Relief: Determine where the ball last crossed the edge of the penalty area. Drop a ball on a line extending straight back from the hole through that point, as far back as you wish.
Red Penalty Area – One-Stroke Penalty
– You have the same two options as a yellow penalty area, plus one additional option:
- iii) Lateral Relief: Drop within two club-lengths of where the ball last crossed the edge of the penalty area, no closer to the hole.
The Putting Green
-When your ball is on the green, you may brush away any loose impediments such as leaves
-Ball location must be marked before being lifted
-Flagsticks are permitted to stay in the hole while putting
Buildings and other artificial objects, including cart paths
Free relief is offered for these immovable obstructions. Locate the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole. drop your ball within one club length from nearest point of relief relief.
