The Maintenance Team has been hard at work with the usual cutting, course repair bunker upkeep and washout repair this year.
On top of this, they have been giving the tee decks extra attention with a significant increase in cultural practices such as aeration and topdressing.
With an average of over 25,000 rounds per year, our tee decks receive a lot of foot traffic and scrutiny from players.
Aeration
Aeration and sand topdressing promotes healthy turf that heals quickly from divots and compaction. Aeration involves perforating the soil with small holes to alleviate compaction and allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate deeper into the root zone. This process combined with aggressive seeding and fertilizer applications promote turf growth by stimulating root development and improving overall turf density.
Sand topdressing
Sand topdressing complements aeration by filling in the holes and improving soil structure, enhancing drainage, and providing a stable surface for golfers. Together, these practices help prevent the tee decks from becoming overly compacted.
Re-Sodding
Aeration and topdressing has been applied to all tee decks. On top of that the team has re-sodded key parts of #14 and #18 tees. They are tentatively scheduled to be ready for golfers on August 8.
It’s worth coming to check out the tee deck improvements along with the other work by the Maintenance Team!
